How did the USA aid China? What did this mean for the GMD?
Because the allies regarded China as a vital means of defeating the Japanese, they were supplied with vast resources in an effort to turn it into a base of operations. By 1945, the USA had invested over $1 billion in China.
America’s entry meant Chiang gained a tremendous military and political boost as leader.
How did Chiang and the GMD avoid being overwhelmed by the superior Japanese armies?
They fought a guerrilla war.
What did US officials say was the principle cause of China’s poor showing against the Japanese?
The fact that Chiang was more determined with crushing the Red’s (CCP) than the Japanese.
What were the biggest failures of the Nationalists?
The GMD’s armies often lacked the will to fight as the ferocity of the recruitment did not inspire loyalty and enthusiasm.
In addition, they had failed to gain the support and backing of the Chinese people, they had lost faith in their leaders.
How was the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki a victory for China but not for Chiang?
After 15 years of struggle, Japan had finally been defeated. Chiang expected US forces to overwhelm not only the Japanese forces occupying China, but also the communist forces as well.
