What is important during stage 1 (preparation)?
-Mother comfort and privacy
-Comfortable, clean/sterile space
-Necessary equipment ready
What do you do during stage 2 (delivery of the baby)?
-as crowning occurs place hand on top baby’s head and apply gentle light pressure
-direct mother to stop pushing and support baby’s head and neck as they emerge
-assess the neonate
What is important during stage 3 (delivery of the placenta)?
Put patient in rapid transport category if:
-placenta doesn’t fully emerge
-placenta is damaged during delivery
What is important during stage 4 (stabilization)?
Ensure initial recovery and stabilization of mother post childbirth
When do you place a mother in rapid transport category?
-placenta doesn’t not fully emerge
-placenta is damaged during delivery
