Symptoms of colic
Babies younger than 4 months, crying an pulling up legs like thyer ein pain in the evenings, typically a few days, maybe tried gripe water, red/flushed
Red flags of colic
A weak high-pitched or continuous cry for several hours, breathing problems or grunting when breathing, having fits, vomiting green fluid, isn’t feeding, treatment failure, high temperature less than 8 weeks, blue/pale, hard to wake up, rash that doesn’t go away with glass tumbler, nappies that aren’t very wet
Symptoms of oral thrush
White patches on mouth/tongue that don’t wipe away, sore red mouth/tongue, drooling, discomfort during feeding, loss of taste/unpleasant taste in mouth, burning sensation in mouth. Can be caused by medication ie steroid inhaler/course of antibiotics
Red flags of oral thrush
Babies younger than 4 months, recurrent infections, in the nappy area, adults and older children without obvious cause , treatment failure
Red flags for general child pain
Symptoms of meningitis, unusual drowsiness, loose muscle tone, lack of responsiveness, has a fit, turns blue/v pale, presence of blood, breathing difficulties, refusing feed, treatment failures, persistent vomiting, high pitches/cry different to normal, fever between 3-6 months, recurrent
Symptoms of teething
Swollen red gums, red cheeks, dribbling, fever, tendency to chew, disrupted sleep, irritability, from 3 months to 3 years
