Related medical problems:
1) PNA
2) bronchitis
3) pharyngitis
- if pt has any of these prior medical hxs, make sure to state when/where/how it was diagnosed and whether or not they are taking any medications
HPI: focus on :
1) context (C)
2) associated symptoms (A)
3) palliation (P)
4) onset/duration (T)
Describe whether cough is ___ or ____.
Productive or dry
If productive, what is the color of the phlegm
Brown, yellow, yellow-greenish, white, clear?
Common associated symptoms:
1) CP
2) SOB
3) Fever
If a pt has CP, it is important to specify whether it’s only with cough.
PE:
*same as dyspnea
Other abnormal findings:
1) tonsillar exudates
2) pharynx erythematous and swollen
Chest X-ray: common findings:
1) no infiltrate
2) no PTX
3) no effusions
MDM: if pt has PNA,
They will most likely be started on abx like :
1) Azithromycin
2) Z-pack
3) Prednisone
Common DDX :
1) PNA
2) bronchitis
3) pharyngitis
4) upper respiratory infection (URI)
5) croup (only with children)
