What to do if improvement seen after 15-30 min?
** IV Catheter → +/- another laxis dose → Diagnostics i.e. BW,XRAY **
What do to if no improvement in 15-30 min?
Redo a Furosemide dose
What to do if no improvement even after redoing Laxis dose?
Give nitroprusside or hydralazine especially if already given 8,10,12 mg/kg total furosemide dose

What is the initial dose for hydralazine?
0.5 mg/kg
What to do after giving hydralazine initial dose?
Give 30-60 min and assess
Assess for following:
- Breathing improved
- HR improved
- Crackles improved
- Normotensive
Further steps regarding Hydralazine if improvement seen with initial dose?
Make 0.5 mg/kg as BID dose
Further steps regarding hydralazine if no improvement with initial dose after 30-60 min?
Give another 0.5 mg/kg as BID dose → reassess in another 30-60 min
- if improvement seen then make 1 mg/kg as BID dose
- if no improvement then it is a SUPER SICK CARDIAC PATIENT
Main point to consider before giving hydralazine ?
Make sure that pet is NORMOTENSIVE !!!!!
Hypotension if MAP <60 and SAP <90 mm/hg
What about anti-anxiety medications?
Author considers it in some dogs who are super-anxious & hyperexcitable
What anti-anxiety medications to use?
Author prefers opioids
2 options i.e. Morphine and butorphanol
Dose of morphine & butorphanol for CHF patient for anxiety?
Morphine : 0.2-0.5 mg/kg IV,IM
Butorphanol : 0.1 - 0.2 mg/kg IV,IM
