Q

what happened to the river in the 1960s-70s

A

In 1960s the river was completely covered over (because it was considered a health and flood risk)
In 1970s an expressway was built that totally covered the river ( this prevented evapotranspiration , damaged river flows and enclosed the river system)

A
  • virtually no vegetation

  • flow rates were highly IRREGULAR affecting wildlife and sediment balances
  • poor water quality
