chemistry specification part 7 Flashcards
how is methane contributing to climate change
methane levels have risen due to human activity. It is produced in the digestive processes in certain livestock so the more livestock we farm the more methane is produced. Increasing the concentration of methane is bad as it is a very effective greenhouse gas
how are humans the cause of climate change
the population is increasing and more people are respiring, giving us more carbon dioxide
energy is needed every day in our homes
countries are becoming industrialised
spaces for houses are needed which causes deforestation
how accurate is historical data over current records
fewer data were taken over fewer locations and the methods used were less accurate. We can now analyse fossils, and gas bubbles in ice sheets to estimate past atmospheric carbon dioxide levels.
how can we mitigate climate change
limiting our use of fossil fuels and doing things on a personal level e.g walking instead of using a car
The Uk has formed plans to encourage people to become more energy efficient to create financial incentives to reduce co2, use more renewable sources and increase research into new energy sources
