Chemistry-Periodic Table ¦ Cycle 1 Q4K Flashcards
What is the periodic table?
Consists of all of the elements that have been discovered. It is arranged by non-metals and metals, and consists of group and periods.
What is a group?
A column in the periodic table, which contains elements of similar properties.
What is a period?
A row in the periodic table?
What is an element?
Made up of only one type of atom.
What is an atom?
The smallest particle of a chemical element that can exist.
What is a bond?
A force of attractions that holds atoms or ions together.
What is a compound?
Two or more different types of atoms that are chemically joined.
What is a mixture?
Two or more different types of atoms that are not chemically joined
What is an ion?
An atom that has lost or gained an electron.
What is an ionic bond?
This is where one atom gives an electron to another atom, so their outer shell is full. These two atoms are ions, and they bond together.
What are group 1 elements called?
Alkali metals
What are group 7 elements called?
Halogens
What are the group 8 elements called?
Noble Gases
What are the elements in group 1?
Lithium, Sodium, Potassium, Rubidium, Caesium and Francium.
What are the elements in group 7 called?
Fluorine, Chlorine, Bromine, Iodine and Astatine.
