Chemistry Exam 2 Terms Flashcards
Ionic Attraction
Force of attraction between and anion and a cation
Ion-Dipole Attraction
A polar molecule where a cation will be attracted to the negative end of a dipole
Dipole-Dipole Attraction
A polar molecule is attracted to another polar molecule
Hydrogen Bonding
Special type of dipole-dipole between polarized H and an especially negative pole (O, N, or F)
London Forces
A nonpolar compound with evenly distributed hydrogens, temporarily become unbalanced
Rank the forces weakest to strongest
London Forces, dipole-dipole, hydrogen bonding, ion-dipole, ionic

What are fats?
lipids that have few double bonds and are mostly saturated; flexible with high LF
What are oils?
lipids that have many double bonds and are mostly unsaturated; inflexible with low LF
What are structural isomers?
compounds that differ how atoms are bonded
What are stereoisomers?
compounds that have different physical arrangement
What are conformational stereoisomers?
compounds that differ only in orientation
