Chemistry Flashcards
What is Matter?
Matter is anything that is made of Atoms. Something that is not matter is energy.
What are Electrons?
Electrons are part of an atom, containing a negative charge. Its symbol is e-. Its AMU is 0.0005
What are Protons?
Protons are part of an atom, containing a positive charge. Its symbol is p+. Its AMU is the same as a neutron, 1.
What are Neutrons?
Neutrons are part of an atom, containing no charge at all. Hence the name Neutron as in Neutral. It’s Symbol is n0. Its AMU is 1.
What is an Atom?
An Atom is the smallest particle of a chemical element that can ever exist. If you cut an Atom in half you get nothing. Nearly everything is made of Atoms, Liquids, Solids, gas, plasma are all composed of many Atoms. The only thing that is not composed of Atoms is energy.
What is a Subatomic Particle?
An Atomic particle is much smaller than an atom, as an Atomic particle is made up of an Atom. Protons, Electrons, Neutrons are Atomic particles.
What is AMU?
AMU is the Atomic Mass Unit. It is a measuring unit made up by scientists. Its unit is 1/12 the mass of an Atom.
What is an Electron Shell?
An electron shell is the outside part of an atom around the atomic nucleus.
What is an Element?
An Element is a substance whose atoms all have the same number of protons. Each element is determined by the amount of protons in the atom.
What is a Compound?
A Compound is a thing that is composed of two or more separate elements; a mixture.
What is a Periodic Table?
A Periodic Table is a table of the chemical elements arranged by their atomic number, electron configuration, and recurring chemical properties.
What is an Atomic Number?
An Atomic Number is the amount of Protons in a Chemical element.
What is an Atomic Mass?
An Atomic Mass is the mass of an Atom. Its measuring system is AMU.
What is an Alchemist?`
A person who studies or practices the transmutation of changing common metals into gold.`
What is an Investigation?
A careful examination or search to gain information.
