Chemistry 4.1.3. Flashcards
Biodegradable polymer
polymers which can be broken down by microorganisms, where light and water are required for digestion.
Cis-trans isomerism
(E.g. of E/Z isomerism) where two of the groups attached to each carbon atom of the carbon double bond are the same, with one of the groups being hydrogen.
Electrophile
an electron pair acceptor.
E/Z isomerism
(E.g. of stereoisomerism) in terms of restricted rotation about the carbon double bond and the requirement for two different groups to be attached to each carbon atom of the carbon-carbon double bond.
Photodegradable polymer
Polymers which can be broken down by UV light.
Stereoisomer
Compounds with the same structural formula but a different arrangement of atoms in space.
