Chemistry 3.2.1. Flashcards
Activation energy
the minimum amount of energy needed for a reaction to take place.
Average bond enthalpy
the average enthalpy change that takes place when breaking by homolytic fission 1 mole of a given type of bond in the molecules of a gaseous species.
Endothermic
a reaction when energy is taken into the system, from the surroundings.
Exothermic
a reaction when energy is released from a system, to the surroundings.
Standard Enthalpy change of Combustion
the enthalpy change that takes place when one mole of a substance reacts completely with oxygen under standard conditions, with all reactants and products in their standard states.
Standard Enthalpy Change of Formation
the enthalpy change that takes place when one mole of a compound is formed from its constituent elements under standard conditions, with all reactants and products in their standard states.
Standard Enthalpy Change of Neutralisation
the enthalpy change that takes place in the reaction of an acid by a base to form one mole of H2O (l), under standard conditions, with all reactants and products in their standard states.
