Chemistry Flashcards
What is a filtrate
A filtrate is the substance that passes through the filter
What is decanting
Decanting is tipping the liquid in a beaker into another, leaving some solid in the bottom of the first beaker
What is a key piece of distillation equipment?
Condenser
What are the clumps of particles that sink to the bottom of a sample of water during the purification process?
Floc
What is a solute and a solvent
A solute is the solid that dissolves into a substance and the solvent is the substance dissolving the solid
What liquid does the centrifuge separate?
Blood
What is the sediment
The sediment is the left over solid from a filter process
What is sieving?
Separating particles of different sizes by allowing smaller particles to fall through holes in a container
What is a separation funnel
A separation funnel is used to separate two mixtures which do not mix. Opening the tap removes the bottom liquid and the floating liquid is left in the funnel
