Chemistry Flashcards
What is a mixture?
Two or more elements NOT chemically joined together
What are properties of a mixture?
They can be physically separated using methods such as filtration, distillation, fractional distillation, chromatography etc
What is at the centre of atoms?
Protons and neutrons ( the nucleus )
Where is most of the mass in an atom
In the nucleus
How do you find the number of protons?
The atomic number
How do you find the number of neutrons?
Mass number - the proton number ( atomic number )
How do you find the number of electrons?
The atomic number
What is an ion?
An atom which has lost or gained electrons, they have charge.
A positive ion will have …… electron(s)
Lost
A negative ion will have …… electron(s)
Gained
What is the ‘Rule of reactivity’
A more reactive metal can displace a less reactive one from a compound
What is the least reactive metal?
Gold
What is the most reactive metal ( we have learnt about )
Potassium

Na Cl
NaCl
