Chemiosmosis Flashcards
Where does chemiosmosis get its energy from?
H+ ion gradient built up by ETC
What is chemiosmosis?
Diffusion of ions across membrane down concentration gradient (high to low)
What facilitates chemiosmosis? What role does this play?
ATP synthase- Synthesizes ATP by letting H+ ions diffuse down the concentration gradient, which lets ADP get phosphorylated into ATP
How does oxidative phosphorylation work?
ETC redox reactions and chemiosmosis power phosphorylation and make lots of ATP
What layers does mitochondria have, outside to inside?
Cytoplasm, outer membrane, intermembrane space, inner mitochondrial membrane, mitochondrial matrix
What protein is embedded in the inner mitochondrial membrane?
ATP synthase
In the end, how is ATP generated during chemiosmosis? (HOW most ATP is produced)
Oxidative phosphorylation
