Chemical urinalysis Flashcards
Specific gravity define
weight of substances compared to water *protein *sugar *cells
Specific gravity (clinical significance)
disease or infected concentrated urine causes an increase in measurement
-normal range- 1.003-1.030-
only exception is diabetes inSIPidus*** kidneys will not absorb nutrients
pH
4.5-8.0 is normal Greater than 7= acid Less than 7 = alkaline (basic) **9.0= left out longer than hour*
pH clinical significance
tells if body is at an acid state or normal stage
Protein -Bence-Jones Protein
ABNORMAL - dip stick will not detect (Present with multiple melanoma (bone-cancer) (incurable)
Protein- orthostatic proteinuria
cause of benign condition as a result of growing
ortho= standing up vertically
Protein- Clinical significance
pregnancy causes toxemia (toxin buildup) and preclampysia (high blood pressure)
