Q

Who was the inventor of plastic

A

Leo Baekeland invented plastic in 1904 by mixing two chemicals, phenol and formaldehyde

17
Q

What was plastic called

A

Bakelite

18
Q

What is the difference between thermoplastics and thermosetting plastics

A

Thermoplastics have long parallel chains that can slide over each other allowing plastic to bend and stretch. Thermosetting plastics have strong cross-linking bonds, locking them into a giant three dimensional structure.

19
Q

What are three ways we can improve plastic waste

A

. Use reusable produce bags
. Return reusable containers
. Give up gum( gum had natural rubber in it but now has been replaced so we are all now chewing on plastic that could also be toxic waste)
