Chemical Equilibrium Flashcards
What is forward and what is reverse reaction and explain what dynamic equilibrium is
Forward->from reactant to products
Reverse-> products to reactants
Dynamic equilibroum is when both happen at the same time
What happens when se change concentrations in equilibrium
Position of eq.is changed
•if it results in formation of more products, position moves to the right
•if it results in formation of more reactants-> moves to the left
How can position of eq.be altered
By changing:
•conc.of reacting substances
•pressures of reacting gases
•temperature
What is thermodynamic eq.constant
Chem.equation that expressed relationship between products and reactants of a reaction at equilibrium with respect to a specific unit
In solution its ratio of molar concentration and on gases its ratio of partial pressures
What does it mean if K>1, or <1
If K>1=>eq.favours products
If K<1=>eq.favours reactants
Can we ignore water when writing eq.constants
Yes. Because [H2O] is constant so its 1. New eq.constant is denoted by Ka
How is eq.constant for gases denoted
Kp
What is ideal gas equation
pV=nRT
How can we turn Kp to Kc
Kp=Kc(RT)^(delta n)
What values do solids,pure liquids and solvents have
1
What is reaction quotient
Proportuon of reactants to products at sprcific instant
What is relationship between Q and K
If K=Q=>reaction is at eq.
K<Q=>forms reactants(reverse)
K>Q=>the reaction forms products to reach eq.
What is Le Chatelier principle
When an external change is mafe to a system in dynamic eq.,the system responds to minimize the effect of the change
What happens when we change the pressure of the reaction
Eq.is movedntowards thebside of eq.with fewer gas molecules. This reduced the pressure and minimizes the effect
When does change of pressure not affect eq.
Whem there is the same number of moles of gas on both sides of the chem.equation
