Chemical Changes Flashcards
What is chemical changes?
Chemical change is a process where a new substance of different properties as its constituents are formed.
Evidence of chemical change?
Effervesecence -> gas evolved, new odour is noticed, formation of precipitate, thermal or light energy is given out, colour change
Types of chemical changes? (8) CORNDPP
Combination, oxidation, respiration, neutralisation, decomposition, precipitation, photosynthesis
What is an ion?
An ion is a charged particle formed when an atom gains or loses an electron.
What is ionic bonding?
Ionic bonding is the electrostatic force of attraction between oppositely-charged ions.
What is covalent bonding?
Covalent bonding is the electrostatic force of attraction between the shared pair of electrons and the positive nuclei of the 2 atoms sharing an electron.
What is chemical bonding?
Chemical bonding is the electrostatic force of attraction between particles.
Law of conservation of chemical change
Matter is neither created nor destroyed. During chemical reaction, number of atoms of reactant is equal to number of atoms of product.
