Chemical analysis Flashcards
What is formulation
A mixture made for a specific purpose (eg fuels, inks)
What test can you identify inks by
Chromatography
What happens in the hydrogen gas test
Sneaky pop test, a pop with a lit splint in a tube
What happens in the oxygen gas test
Splint is relight - glowing
What is carbon dioxide gas test
Turning limewater cloudy
What is the choline test
Damp blue Litmus paper changes colour to white
The flame test results
Barium - green
Calcium - orange/red
Copper - blue
Lithium - crimson red
Sodium - orange
Potassium - lilac
What happens in precipitate test
Add excess NaOH to solution and if solid is formed, means its a precipitate
Precipitate test results
Aluminium - white
Magnesium - white
Calcium - white
Iron III - brown
Iron II - green
Non-metal ion test results
CO3 - adding acid and bubbles formed
Cl - add nitric acid forming white precipitate
Br - add acid forming cream precipitate
I - add silver nitrate forming yellow precipitate
