Chem Q7 Flashcards
What is pooling/ metalic bonding?
when metals hold their outer e’s loosely and the e’s move freely from atom to atom
What does pooling do?
holds metal atoms together
What are the differances between pooling and covalent bonding?
- pooling is shareing of outer e’s between metals while covalent is sharing of outer e’s between nonmetals
- pooling is sharing of outer e’s among ALL metal atoms in an object
What is the ratio in which covalent bonds always share?
1:1
What is the maximum amount of atoms that will share the same e’s?
two
Why are metals bendable, ductile, and malleable?
the pooling allows atoms to slide past each other into new shapes
Why metals good conductors of elctricity?
the outer e’s are held loosly and this allows them to flow easily towrds a positive charge (electric current)
Why arev metals denser than nonmetals?
the pooling of outer e’s draws metal atoms closer togther
