Chem Lesson 1: 12.1 - 12.3 Flashcards
Chemical Reaction Rates
Rate of Reaction
How fast a reaction is going.
Rate Expression
Mathematical representation of the change in species over time.
rate=k[A]^x[B]^y
Average Rate
Using concentrations at the beginning and end of a time period in which the reactants are occurring.
Instantaneous Rate
Any specific time in which the rate is occurring. Occur at one point on a graph.
Five Factors that affect the reaction rate
Physical state (surface area), temp, catalyst, nature of element, concentration
Activation Energy E,
Minimum amount of energy needed to make products during a collision.
Rate Constant
Constant in the rate law that depends on the specific reactants on hand and is related to the activation energy and temperature.
Solve Rate Law (given chart)
Find orders of the reaction.
Reaction Orders
Tells us how the concentration affects the rate.
