What are the types of milk?

What causes bitter milk?
Cows eating bitter weeds, mastitic or stripper cows, certain types of bacteria
What causes feed milk?
Strong or silage feed before milking, strong pasture feeds, poor ventilation, sudden feed changes
What causes flat watery milk?
Milk has been diluted with water
What causes foreign milk?
Sanitizers in equipment, some barn or crop sprayers, some fly sprays, teat medications
What causes garlic or onion milk?
Cow eats or smells wild onion
What causes high acid milk?
Unclean equipment, poor cooling
What causes malty milk?
Contamination with malty bacteria, poor cooling
What causes oxidized or metallic milk?
Individual cows, exposed copper in milk equipment, milk exposed to any light
What causes rancid milk?
Late lactation, air leaks in pipe systems, high rises in pipe lines, continuous operation milk pumps, excessive agitation above 50 degrees, bulk cooling deficiency
What causes salty milk?
Late lactation, mastitic milk
What causes unclean milk?
Poorly ventilated stables, unclean equipment, unclean udders and flanks, moldy feed, musty milk stoned equipment
