how do they both challenge the power of humans from high authorities

A

C- government through phonetic spelling ‘dem tell me’, emphasises separation speaker feels between british and himself, he is proud of his heritage
L- church for not helping poor ‘blackening church’, shows he is criticising church, which is supposedly a place of hope yet it ‘appals’ children

A

C-presents a hopeful tone and a desire for change by using black historical figures
L- cyclical structure, suffering is repetitive and nothing can change it due to result of human power

how do they both show restrictions

A

C- ‘bandage me eye with me own history/ blind me to me own identity’, bandages = healing but here it’s used to prevent him from his history
L- ‘mind-forged manacles’ ‘ban’, manacles= type of chain, ‘ban’ is a restriction placed by law, so they are metaphorically imprisoned
