Chater 3 Flashcards
Male repro anatomy (makes up)
Testis, spermatic cord, butch’s defferns, accessory sex glands, scrutinize, glans penis, prepuce
What are the accessory sex glands
Ampulla, vesicular gland, prostate, bulbourethral gland
Testis
Contains seminiferous tubes,site of spermatogenesis
Seminiferous tubules
Deliver sperm to rete testis
Rete testis
Leads to efferent ductules
Spermatozoa are developed
By serotonin cells by stimulation of FSH
Interstitial/ leygid cells
Between S. Tubules, secrete testosterone when stimulated by LH
Sertoli cells in males
Equal granulosa cells in females and both have FSHr
Leydig cells in males
Equal theca interna cells in females and both have LHr
draw the stallion repro tract
Cremaster muscle, Ductus deferences, head of epididymis, tail of epididymis, pampinform plexus, parietal vaginal tunic, visceral vagina tunic, testis
Pituitary hormone effect
LH and FSH stimulate spermatogenesis and testosterone secretion
Testes hormone effect
Testosterone and inhibin inhibit the secretion of GnRH by the hypothalamus and LH and FHS by the pituitary
Functions of spermatic cord
Suspends testis in scrotum, provides heat exchange, houses cremaster muscle
Pampiniform plexus
Counter current heat exchange, cools arterial blood supply, thermoregulation
Three thermoregulation ways
Tunica dartos, cremaster muscle (raise/lower), p. Plexus (blood cooling)
Epididymis
Convoluted duct that connects efferent ductules to ductus deferens, house spermatozoa to mature before expelling, divided into head, body, and tail regions
Ductus deferens
Muscular tube that ejaculation peristaltic contraction propels sperm for epididymis to penile urethra
Accessory sex glands produce
bulk of ejaculate, provides nutrients, acts as a buffer
Ampulla
Add volume to ejaculate
Vesicular
Adds volume and monosaccharides
Bulbourethral
Secrets fluids to clear tract and gel fraction causes seminal plasma to coagulate
Prostate
Produces alkaline secretion
Scrotum
Cutaneous protective sac that contains the testes, thin pliable skin that is hairless, Darto muscle wrinkles skin, layer of fibroelast tissue
Glands penis
Make organ of copulation, maintains columns of erectile tissue that contains blood sinusoids and sheets of connective tissue called trabeculae (horses) , also fibroelastic penis that is composed of trabeculae but is firm even when not erect, sigmoid flèche allows for retraction
Prepuce
Food of skin that surrounds free end of penis, hairless moist skin that connects sheath to penis, averts when penis is extended outside body, not sheath
Sheath
Prepuce or foreskin, Structure in which glans penis is retracted into, protection
Testicular mass
Sperm production ability
