Characters Personalities Flashcards
MICKEY (Age 7):
Personality
At age 7, Mickey is sensitive, playful and mischievous. He is one of the Johnstone twins, who are both unaware of the other’s existence until they meet; they were separated at birth. Mickey is apart of the working class and feels safe and protected by Mrs Johnstone, his mother. Since he is apart of the working class, and he is male, he is expected to start working at quite an early age in order to earn money for his family
MICKEY (Age 14):
Personality
Mickey begins to act more teenage-like, so he starts to be a bit rebellious than when he was 7, taking more risks. He has a crush on Linda, and she has a big one on him as well, but is too scared to tell her how he feels towards her. When he meets Eddie again, the two grow closer and still stay unaware of the class difference between them, working and middle class
MICKEY (Age 18)
Personality
Mickey begins to understand the difference between the class differences, and which class he is apart of. He marries Linda and the three remain friends just like they were a few years back. When Eddie leaves for university, he falls out with him and the two become distant once again as he feels like they are no longer blood brothers. Since Mickey lost his job at the factory he worked at, he has no money and turns to a life of crime with Sammy, which ends with him in prison and leaving Linda by herself
MICKEY (Age mid 20s):
Personality
Whilst spending time in prison, Mickey becomes angry and upset with himself since he made a stupid decision and now he can’t support or be with Linda and their unborn child. He starts to take depression pills. When he is released, Linda tries to go back to normal, but Mickey is like a completely different person and the two end up arguing. When Mrs L tells Mickey that Linda and Eddie are having an affair, Mickey gets furious and goes to shoot Eddie. This is when he learns that he is related to Eddie
EDDIE (Age 7):
Personality
He is raised by Mrs Lyons and Mr Lyons in a huge house in a rather posh part of Liverpool, a few streets away from Mickey. He is very well mannered and he also doesn’t understand the class difference between people, yet. This causes him to become friends with Mickey as he is very unlike him. He is very obeying and wants to be like other people, such as Mickey. He is the other Johnstone twin that was given away by Mrs Johnstone in the beginning of the play
EDDIE (Age 14):
Personality
Eddie is slightly aware of the class difference between middle and working class people but still isn’t entirely sure. He goes to an all boys school, where he is picked on by his teacher quite often for not being like the other boys. He seems to have left his last behind him after moving away from the city
EDDIE (Age 18):
Personality
He is very responsible at this age and is very aware of the class difference and which class he and his family fall into, though he is still friendly with Mickey and Linda. He goes off to university which makes him realise and understand that he can no longer be with Mickey since the two are very different after all
EDDIE (Age mid 20s):
Personality
He comes back from university and sees Mickey once he is out of prison, and is shocked to see how much he and Linda have changed, and how much their relationship has altered due to Mickey’s life in prison. When Linda goes to him for help, he agrees to help her which leads Mickey to think of the affair between them
LINDA (Age 7):
Personality
Linda is quite immature and childlike at this age, almost very similar to how Mickey used to behave. The audience can tell that she has a crush on Mickey already, due to the fact that she always defends him from Sammy when they play games together. She is kind and welcoming to Eddie when she meets him, and is shown as outgoing and loud
LINDA (Age 14):
Personality
She still possess some childlike features from her childhood, but is still hanging out with Mickey and Eddie like when they were young. She doesn’t see the difference in the classes like Mickey does so she still respects them both equally. She and Mickey start to go out with each other and she doesn’t hide her love for him at all, she isn’t shy and is very honest with him. She is also confident and feisty
LINDA (Age 18):
Personality
She and Mickey get married because she is expecting a child and they move in together, since this is what would’ve been expected of them. She and Eddie are still friends but the two say goodbye to each other when he leaves for university. She could be seen as a bit similar to Mrs J, as she strays away from her immature and childlike manner and is caring and soft
LINDA (Age mid 20s):
Personality
She is obviously struggling with Mickey’s problems, even though she is trying to support him and go back to how things were before. When he is on the medication, he starts to respect Linda less than before which upsets her and causes her to turn to Eddie for help. She does this for Mickey’s benefit though Mickey doesn’t believe her
SAMMY (Child):
Personality
As a child, Sammy is very rebellious and is seen bullying Mickey quite a bit. He doesn’t really act like a role model to his younger brother like he should and doesn’t listen to what Mrs Johnstone says to him, either. He is seen as very independent and violent, too
SAMMY (Adult):
Personality
He clearly knows about the divide in the classes and this affects him greatly, as he turns to crime to solve all his problems. He lures Mickey into crime, as well, which ends up with him getting put into prison
MRS JOHNSTONE (Act 1): Personality
The audience can clearly see that she loves and cares for all her children a lot and tries to give them everything the need, but never has the money for any of it. After she gives Eddie away, she is upset and is sacked by Mrs L, which upsets her even more. When she meets Eddie again at 7 years old, she feels guilty with herself and turns Eddie away a few times before having a proper conversation with him and giving him a locket with a. photo of herself and Mickey in so he can remember the two of them. she is a main character, who is very superstitious which also links to a lot of the events that happen in the play
