Fundamental rights
The freedom of speech and the media; peaceful assembly; thought, opinion and beliefs
Democratic rights
Allows us to run for public office and limits our federal and provincial elected bodies to a five year term
Mobility rights
Means that you can travel around the country as we wish; drive your car anywhere as long as you have a legitimate drivers license, u can move freely in and out of Canada
Legal rights
Being able to go out about our daily lives without harrassment. Also includes what our rights are when we are arrested, searched by the police and our rights within the court
Equality rights
All Canadians must be treated equally regardless of their ethnicity, physical or mental disabilities, race, sex, skin colour, religion or age
Language rights
Canada has two official languages; french and english. The charter provides that both languages have equal status in Canada in federal institutions and in our federal parliament. Have the right to choose English or French when they are in federal court
Enforcement rights
Gives the courts of our country the responsibility of protecting the rights enshrined within the Charter of Rights and freedoms and enforcing those rights when necessary

Checks and Balances
Means that the government can become too powerful because of this. The government has to describe their powers and the limits of each branch. Also prevents abuse of power
