C: this is typical at the time as people tended to be more issolated as they didnt want to be judged or rude

Gin was looked as a drink for the poor at the time and so he drinks it when alone to maintain his reputation
C: emphasises how judgemental a victorian society was and explains why so may peole were secretive about what they do

Shows that hi is strict with himself and doesn’t get involved with others
Never lighted by a smile
Shows he is reserved and secretive and doesn’t show any emotions
