Protagonist?
The main character, often a hero but not always.
Antagonist?
A character who opposes the protagonist, intensifies or creates conflict.
Coming-of-age story or Bildungsroman?
The maturing of the protagonist, moves from childhood to adulthood.
Epiphany?
An “Aha” moment and/or a life changing realization.
Round Characters?
Display a wide variety of emotions.
Flat Characters?
lacks character development.
Foil?
A contrasting character who allows the protagonist to stand out more.
Stock Character?
A type of flat character based on stereotype.
Direct characterization?
Describes character with background, motivation, temperament, and/or appearance.
Indirect Characterization?
Shows what a character is like by what they do say or think
