Protagonist
The leading character or one of the major characters in a narrative
Antagonist
A person who actively opposes or is hostile ton someone or something
Coming-Of-Age Story
The time when a person legally becomes an adult and is old enough to vote
Bildungsroman
A novel dealing with one person’s formative years or spiritual education
Epiphany
A manifestation of a divine or supernatural being
Round Characters
A character in a fictional work with depth or a complex personality
Flat Characters
Two-dimensional in that they are relatively uncomplicated and do not change throughout the course of work
Foil
Prevent (something considered wrong or undesirable) from succeeding
Stock Characters
A character in a literature, theater, or film of a type quickly recognized and accepted by the reader or viewer and requiring no development by the writer
Direct Characterization
When an author describes a character in a straightforward manner, as if telling the reader directly
Indirect Characterization
A type of literary device that reveals details about a character without stating them explicitly
