Chapters 9, 10, 13, and 4 Flashcards
What is counterbalancing in within subjects designs?
Giving treatment at different times to different subjects to make sure it’s not an age thing
Latin square
matrix design in which a limited number of order sequences are constructed
Nonexperimental design
no attempt to minimize threats to data
Quasi experimental design
some attempt to minimize threats to internal validity
Nonequivalent group design:
Cannot assign characteristics, they’re already present
Differential research design:
Splitting people into groups based on characteristics and measuring their data in contrast to one another (like IQ across gender or stuff)
posttest-only nonequivalent control group design:
Measured only after the treatment
pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group design
Measured before and after the treatment
Time series design:
Like pre-post but uses a series of observations rather than just one before and one after
Developmental research designs:
Changes in behavior related to age
Two types of developmental research designs:
Cross sectional
Longitudinal
Cross sectional development research design:
Measuring different ages all at the same time and collecting data
Longitudinal development research designs
Taking one group and studying them over time
Quasi independent variable
variable that allows comparison of groups of participants without manipulation.
3 types of observational research
Naturalistic
Participant
Contrived
