Chapters 5-12 Flashcards

1
Q

Big ideas of 5-12

A

Due to the failure of the house of David and the nation generally, YHWH is going to destroy His people through the Assyrians.

Isaiah’s ministry will harden his audience until they are beyond repentance. Yet from the ashes of the destruction will come a Davidic ruler through whom YHWH will save his people, establish justice and righteousness, draw in the nations and renew creation.

key verse Chapter 5

A

7- The fruitless vineyard

7 The vineyard of the LORD Almighty
is the nation of Israel,
and the people of Judah
are the vines he delighted in.
And he looked for justice, but saw bloodshed;
for righteousness but heard cries of distress.§

Key verse Chapter 6

A

6:9-10- the hardening commission

Is. 6:9 He said, “Go and tell this people:

              “ ‘Be ever hearing, but never understanding;
                                be ever seeing, but never perceiving.’ 10             Make the heart of this people calloused;
                                make their ears dull
                                and close their eyes.
              Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
                                hear with their ears,
                                understand with their hearts,
              and turn and be healed.”

Key verse chapter 9

A

Is. 9:1 Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the nations, by the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan—

The people walking in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of deep darkness
a light has dawned.
3 You have enlarged the nation
and increased their joy;
they rejoice before you
as people rejoice at the harvest,
as warriors rejoice
when dividing the plunder.
