Chapter7:8 Flashcards
Demand pacemaker
Delivers electrical impulses only when the hearts own conduction system isn’t responding correctly
Interventricular septum
Lower part of the septum
The average adult has
4-6 quarts of blood
Thrombocytes
For clotting
Normal count 250,000-400,000
Systole
The period of ventricular contraction
Lymphocytes
Provide immunity for the body
Arrhythmias
Abnormal heart rhythm can be mild or life threatening
Capillaries
Blood vessels that connect arterioles with venules
Hemoglobin
Protein on red blood cells
SA Node
- Group of cells located in right atrium called sinoatrial node or pacemaker
- Sends out an electrical impulse that spreads out over the muscles in the atria
Hemophilia
-An inherited disease that occurs almost exclusively in males, but can be carried in females
The blood is unable to clot because of of plasma protein required for clotting
Myocardial Infarction
Blockage in the coronary arteries cuts off the supply of blood to the heart.
Phlebitis
Inflammation of a vein, frequently in the leg.
