Some Bolsheviks feared Lenin’s radical proposals would do more harm than good
Allegations that Lenin was in the pay of the Germans
Mensheviks feared Lenin would stir up discontent
Some thought Lenin’s call to oppose the PG was unrealistic
What happened at the vote of confidence by the ‘All Russians Congress of Soviets’?
3rd June - passed a vote of confidence in the PG by 543 votes to 126
What caused the July days?
Between February and June grain prices had doubled in Petrograd
Shortages of fuel and raw materials
586 factories closed, 100,000 jobs lost
What happened during the July days?
Sailors organised armed demonstration using Bolshevik slogans at Kronstadt naval base - spread to the centre of town
Shots fired at the demonstrators
PG brought in reinforcements
Bolsheviks were ijmprisoned
What was the situation in summer 1917?
PG had little support
October- prices were 755% above pre - war levels
Factory workers who went on strike could now be dismissed
Peasants seized land
