Chapter 1
Story of the Door
One Sunday, possibly in November, Utterson and his cousin Enfield are out for a walk
Enfield tells the story of a strange-looking door they pass
Chapter 2
Search for Mr Hyde
Mr Utterson later that night - Unable to settle, re-reads Jekyll’s will
Visits Lanyon, who fell out with Jekyll ~10 years ago
A period when Utterson watches for Hyde outside his door
He then meets Hyde and then visits Jekyll’s house
Chapter 3
Dr Jekyll Was Quite at Ease
Two weeks later
Jekyll’s dinner party
Stays behind to speak to Jekyll
Chapter 4
The Carew Murder Case
Nearly a year later, in October, one night after 11pm
Sir Danvers Carew murdered
Utterson leads the police the following morning to Hyde’s
Chapter 5
Incident of the Letter
Later that afternoon, then in the evening
Goes to Jekyll’s, Jekyll by fire and looks sickly. Claims Hyde is gone for good
Gives Utterson letter from ‘Hyde’ and claims that he has left
Utterson receives letter for dinner at Jekyll’s and Mr Guest identifies the handwriting the same on both letters.
Chapter 6
Remarkable Incident of Dr Lanyon
Two months pass
8th January Utterson dines with Jekyll
Jekyll’s Health lasted 2 months- then he goes into isolation
From 12th to 16th January, Utterson tries to visit Jekyll but is refused
Utterson visits Lanyon
U writes letter to J about Lanyon, J responds saying he wants to live a life of seclusion
Lanyon dies a week later
Utterson opens letter from L not to be opened until his death, it contains another not to be opened until J’s death
Chapter 7
Incident at the Window
The next Sunday, Utterson and Enfield on a walk
See Jekyll in window- his face changes and the two men are in horror
Chapter 8
The Last Night
One evening after dinner
10pm Utterson leaves the house and will be back by midnight, believing Jekyll has been murdered
Someone is in Jekyll’s room who isn’t Jekyll.
Poole, Bradshaw and Utterson break in to find Hyde dead after taking a substance to kill himself
Chapter 9
Dr Lanyon’s Narrative
Between 9th and 13th January
Lanyon gets a vial, powders and a book from a drawer by command of Jekyll after receiving an urgent letter from him
He delivers them to a man (Hyde) who creates and drinks a potion and transforms into Jekyll
Chapter 10
Henry Jekyll’s Full Statement of the Case
Jekyll’s story from his birth to almost the end of his life
Makes potion to separate the two sides of man, becomes addicted and loses control
Decides to rid of Hyde, Carew Murder forces this, but one day he transforms into Hyde without a potion
Gets Lanyon to deliver the potion, he needs potions just to stay as Jekyll.
Hyde is gaining control and the potions have less effect
