What does SIPDE stand for?
Scan - your surroundings and any oncoming traffic or hazards
Identify - hazards or potential conflicts
Predict - consider speed, distance, and direction of hazards and predict how they might affect you
Decide - based on your prediction decide what you need to do in the situation
Execute - carry out your decision (communicate and adjust your speed and position or direction)
When it is the winter, what should be the first thing you do before you drive off? What are the additional tips?
- remove snow and ice from your vehicle’s hood, windows, and lights before driving
- make sure that your windshield contains antifreeze
- test the brakes
- avoid using cruise control on slippery roads
What do you do if you become stranded?
- Turn on your hazards
- set out flags or flares
- try to keep warm
- stay calm
During bad weather conditions, you should…
reduce your speed and keep a safe distance from other cars and always be alert and cautious
When should your headlights be on low beam?
Within 1,000 feet of an oncoming vehicle or following another vehicle at a distance at a 200 feet or less (should be in from sunrise to sunset)
