Chapter P2- Energy transfer by heating Flashcards

1
Q

Name different ways to prevent heat loss in a home?

What is specific heat capacity?

What is the formula for calculating specific heat capacity?

A

Loft insulation, aluminium foil between radiator panel and the wall, double glazed windows, thicker branches and cavity wall protection.

The specific heat capacity of a substance is the energy needed to raise the temperature of 1kg of the substance by 1 oC.

Energy Transferred (J) = Mass(kg) X Specific heat capacity (J/kg oC) X Temperature change (oC).

Q

What does the energy transfer by conduction depend on?

What does it mean if a material has a greater thermal conductivity?

What are infrared radiation and visible light part of?

What do all bodies (objects) do no matter what their temperature?

What is a perfect black body?

What happens when an object absorbs radiation faster than it emits radiation?

A

Thermal Conductivity.

The more energy per second it transfers by conduction.

The electromagnetic spectrum.

Emit and absorb infrared radiation.

An object that absorbs all the radiation that hits it.

Its temperature increases.
