What are superfiical mycoses caused by?
Candida species (scalp, foot, skin, mucous membranes) & Dermatophytic infx (ringworm)
Antifgunal superficial mycoses ending in -azoles (i.e., ketoconazole, itraconazole, flucanazole, etc.) are used? First line drug for tx?
For superficial mycoses on the skin with route being topical, broad spectrum of pathogenic fungi.
First line drug - Clotrimazole
Ketoconazole should be administered how?
Limited oral usage due to toxicity, avoid oral usage for superficial fungal infx if possible
Intravaginal use of Miconazole can interact with which medication?
Can intensify the anticoagulant medication warfarin, monitor INR if patient on both meds
Griseofulvin is used? MOA?
ONLY for superficial mycoses, NOT EFFECTIVE FOR SYSTEMIC MYCOSES
Allylamine antifungals end in (-ifine), what should be monitored closlely?
terbinafine needs CLOSE liver fx if taken oral; needs baseline and routine LFTs
