Chapter 9 Review Flashcards
1
Q
What is Cardiac Output? What is the average range for males and females?
A
Q = HR x SV
- Untrained M: 22
- Untrained F: 18
- Trained M: 34.2
- Trained F: 23.8
2
Q
What is ECG/EKG or Electrocardiogram
A
A recording of the electrical changes that occur in the myocardium during the cardiac cycle
3
Q
What is the Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP) and its formula? What are systolic and diastolic blood pressure and their normal ranges?
A
- MAP is the average pressure during a cardiac cycle. Determines the rate of blood flow through systemic circuits
- DBP + 1/3 (SBP - DBP); units are mm Hg
- Systolic: pressure generated as blood is pumped from the heart
- Diastolic- ventricular relaxation
4
Q
What is cardiovascular drift
A
The increase in HR and decrease in SV observed during prolonged exercise
