MAKUA RANGE

A

Makua Range is located within the R-3110 complex. The procedures for Makua are the following:

 Contact Makua Range Control during their operating hours (0530 – 1400 HST, M-F). When Makua Range Control is not operating, aircrews may contact Lightning Radio or Schofield Range Control.

 Monitor Lightning Radio for traffic entering from the Wings Training Area.

 No more than three individual aircraft or one flight of aircraft will operate within Makua.

 Contact Makua Range Control when departing.

WINGS TRAINING AREA

A

Wings Training Area (WTA) is contained within the R-3109C and R 3110C boundaries (UAS Sectors Gold North, White North, and Orange North); 3,000 feet MSL and below for manned aircraft. The area is designed primarily for manned/unmanned teaming operations and multi-ship terrain flight training with only
covert lighting (visible/overt lighting off).

Notes

A

Due to the use of CAB and BCT Shadows operating at 3,300 MSL and above, regardless of participating traffic for MUM-T operations or not, all manned aircraft must remain 3,000 MSL
and below.

Because the WTA is in a restricted area, military aircraft may switch lighting to covert only (blackout) without an observation aircraft with overt settings (full FAA lighting).

Wings Training Area Procedures

SCHEDULING

A

For deliberate operations, such as training zone reconnaissance or attacks into Makua, units will submit
a NOTAM to base operations two business days prior to execution. Provide the following:

 Unit(s)
 Date/time/group for mission start
 Date/time/group for end of mission
 Point of contact (air mission commander’s call sign and phone number)

NOTAMS are not required for covert lighting (blackout) operations

CHECK-IN PROCEDURES

A

Aircrews will conduct the following:

 Contact Lightning Radio with:
 Call sign
 Number & type of aircraft
 Entry sector (aircrews may use Gold, White, or Orange North)
 Request “Blackout” or “MUM-T” operations
9-9.

Aircrews can expect 15-minute check in call with Lightning Radio. Aircrews may use the UAS sectors for position reporting (i.e., Gold North, White North, and Orange North).

FLIGHT PROCEDURES

A

There are no established terrain flight routes in the WTA. The WTA is “free flight”.

Aircrews will plot the avoid areas (referenced in figure 9-1 as NO-FLY areas) on a map

 Monastery (04Q EJ 859 849)
 Mt. Ka’ala Radar Station (04Q EJ 88833 78574) (1 KM radius)
 Campground (04Q EJ 833 827) (fly neighborly)
 Ka’ena Point Satellite Tracking Station (04Q EJ 7871 8452) (1 KM radius)
 50 ft wire hazard

MUM-T OPERATIONS

A

Aircrews performing MUM-T must provide a NOTAM request at least two business days to WAAF Base Operations.

The recommended size formation within the WTA is platoon (4-5 manned aircraft) or smaller.
