Caucus
A meeting of party members to select delegates backing one or another primary candidate.
Plurality system
An electoral system where the winner was that who got the most votes, even if he or she didn’t get the majority of the votes cast.
Two Party System
An electoral system consisting of two dominant parties that compete in national elections
Personal Following
The political support provided to a candidate on the basis of popularity
Sponsored party
A local or state political party largely supported by another organization.
Solidary Incentives
The social rewards to joining a political organization.
Ideological party
A party that values principled stands on issues above anything else.
Political machine
A party organization that recruits members by dispensing patronage.
Super delegates
Party leaders or officials who become del gates to the national convention without having to run in primaries.
National convention
Meeting of party delegates. One every four years.
National committee
Delegates who run party affairs between national conventions
Congressional Campaign Comittee
A party committee in congress that provides funds to its members and would be members. Day to day party manager elected by the national committee.
National chair
Day to day party manager elected by the national committee.
Office bloc ballot
A ballot listing all candidates under their respective office.
Party column ballot
A ballot listing all candidates of a given party together under the name of that party.
