Chapter 9 part 2 Flashcards
Human geneics
WILD TYPE
Most common type of trait in population.
Six fingers is dominant but not wild type
CAN BE either DOMINANT or recessive
Recessive Genetic Disorder:
Def:
Only …
EXAMPLES: 3
Disease cause by recessive allele. Only get SICK if they inherit 2 recessive alleles. ex: Sickle cell anemia allbanism CYSTIC FIBROSIS
CARRIER
Person who is heterozygous for recessive allele.
Phenotypically healthy but can pass disease to offspring.
Dominant Genetic Disorder
How many alleles carry the disease?
Any carriers?
EXAMPLE:
ONE allele causes the desease.
No carries b/c heterozygous individuals are sick.
ARCHODROPIA (DWARFDISM), HUNGTINGTON DISEASE.
Incomplete dominance:
Recessive allele is Not completely hidden.
Heterozygous individuals has an intermediate phenotype. EX: PINK FLOWERES
Condominance
- NO RECESIVE ALLELE PRESENT
- JUST 2 DOMINANT ALLELES
- HETEROZYGOUS INDIVIDUALS HAVE BOTH TRAITS AT THE SAME TIME
EX: BLOOD TYPE AB
PLEIOTROPHY:
ONE ALLELE CAUSES MANY PHENOTYPES.
SICKLE CELL ANEMIA HAS MANY SYMPTOMS AND I BENEFICIAL TO HETEROZYGOUS INDIVIDUALS.
POLYGENIC INHERITANCE:
One single trait is controlled by many different genes.
skin color
lots of variations
