Chapter 9: Muscle Structure Flashcards
Myofilaments
Structure making up a sarcomere of a myofibril.
Myosin or Actin.
Contractile- 2 proteins slide past each other to shorten muscle.
Muscle fibers
Elongated cells
Striated
Multinucleated
In endomysium
Sarcomere
Segment of myofibril between 2 Z disc.
Contractile movement
Made of Actin and Myosin
Sarcolemma
Muscle plasma membranes
Sarcoplasm
Cytoplasm of a muscle cell
Epimysium
Connective tissue wrapping around the muscle
Fascicle
Discrete bundle of muscle cells that are segregated from the rest of the muscle by connective tissue covering.
Wrapped in Perimysium.
Perimysium
Connective tissue wrapping around the fascicle.
Endomysium
Connective tissue wrapping around the muscle fiber
Myofibrils
Complex organelle composed of bundles of myafilaments
Actin
Thin filaments
Myosin
Thick filaments
Sarcoplasmic reticulum
Like smooth endoplasmic reticulum
Surrounds each myofibril
Regulates the intracellular calcium levels
T tubule
Reaches inward from membrane through the fiber
Allows extracellular fluid to move throughout the fiber
