Chapter 9- fitness components Flashcards
Define body composition
Proportion of bone, muscle and fat in an athlete
Define balance
The ability to maintain equilibrium while stationary or moving
Define muscular power
The force or tension a muscle or muscle group can exert against a resistance in one maximal contraction (1RM)
Define speed
How fast you can move your body or body part from one point to another
Define muscular strength
the ability to exert a maximal contraction in one effort
Define muscular endurance
The ability of a muscle, or common group of muscle, to continue sustained contractions in the face of fatigue.
Define flexibility
Its the capacity of a joint to move through its full range of motion, and reflects the ability of the muscles and connective tissues to stretch
Define reaction time
The time from the presentation of a s stimulus to the onset of a response
Define agility
The ability to change body positions or direction rapidly and accurately while maintaining balance
Define coordination
Its the ability to use the body’s senses to execute motor skills smoothly and accurately
Define aerobic capacity/power
The ability of the blood vessels and respiratory systems to supply nutrients and and oxygenated to the muscles to use the oxygen for sustained exercise
Define Anaerobic capacity
The ability of the body to produce energy without using oxygen
Give a sports example of anaerobic capacity
All athletic field events, long jump, shot put
Give a sports example of aerobic capacity
Marathons, cross country skiing, AFL midfielders
Give a sports example of coordination
Tennis serve, ball control in soccer
