Process model for communication
A
- Sender originates messAge with a thought
- Sender encodes the message (encodes the message with words)
- The medium of this encoded message may be spoken or written or signs
- The receiver is the person who receives the message
- The receiver decides the message by assigning meaning to the words

11 Barriers to effective communication
A
- Filtering
- Selective perception (a type of filtering that best suits our needs)
- Information overload
- Emotional disconnects (emotionally upset)
- Lack of source familiarity or credibility
- Workplace gossip
- Semantics ( think of jargon)
- Gender differences in communication ( men use sports metaphors vs women using home analogies)
- Difference in meaning between sender and receiver
- Biased language ( referring to someone by an adjective)
- Poor listening
