Chapter 9 Flashcards
What is distance and what type of quantity is it?
It’s a scalar quantity that refers to how much ground an object has covered during its motion
What is displacement and what type of quantity is it?
It’s a vector quantity that refers to how far out an object is ; its the objects overall change of position
What is displacement in terms of magnitude and direction?
When you have a charge of position in a particular direction and of a particular distance, these are given by the magnitude and direction of the displacement vector
What are some factors that affect the rate that people walk, run or even cycle?
It can depend on many factors such as :
- age, fitness and distance travelled
What is the equations for distance travelled?
Distance Travelled = Speed (s) x Time (m/s)
What is the equation for speed using velocity and time?
Speed = Velocity x Time
What is the equations when all five quantities are in the same equation? U - initial velocity V - final velocity A - acceleration T - time S - displacement
V(2) - U(2) = 2AS
On a velocity time graph, what is the gradient?
The acceleration
On a velocity time graph, what is the area under the graph?
The distance travelled
What is the equation for acceleration, using change in velocity and time taken?
Acceleration = Change In Velocity / Time Taken
On a distance-time graph what does the curved slope stand for?
An object moving at non-uniform speed
On a distance-time graph what does the straight slope stand for?
An object moving at a uniform speed
On a distance-time graph what does the no slope stand for?
An object that is stationary
What does the gradient stand for on a distance-time graph?
The speed
What does it mean when an object has negative acceleration?
The object is slowing down
