chapter 9 Flashcards
Z discs
seperates muscle sacromeres
A band
contains the entire length of single thick filament
I band
Isotropic bands. Light band that contains only the thin filament
myosin
thick filament protein
acetylcholinesterase
An enzyme that removes all acetylcholine particles that don’t immediately bind with the receptor and those that are doen activation. This helps the muscle to relax.
Acetylcholine
neurotransmitter that binds to nicotinic receptors in the end plate. Nicotinic receptors open allowing for sodium channels
sodium ions
calcium ions
binds with troponin and moves tropomyosin out the way so that actin and myosin can react together
neuromuscular junction
chemical synapse between nerve terminal and motor endplate
isometric contraction
when muscle tensions overcomes the load and shortens, tension remains constant
isotonic contraction
concentric: muscle development while shortening
eccentric: muscle development while lengthening
motor unit summuation
tetanus
muscle tone
relaxed msucles are still almsot always slightly contracted. Keeps muscle firm, healthy, and ready to respond to any movement
