Chapter 8 Vocabulary Flashcards
The angle formed by a horizontal line and a line of sight to a point below.
Angle of Deppression
An angle that measures greater than 0 and less than 90.
Acute Angle
The angle formed by a horizontal line and a line of sight to a point above.
Angle of Elevation
Two angles whose measures have a sum of 90.
Complementary Angles
In a right triangle, the cosine of angle A is the ratio of the length of the leg adjacent to angle A to the length of the hypotenuse. It is reciprocal to the second function.
Cosine
The starting point of a vector.
Initial Point of a Vector
For Triangle ABC with side lengths a,b, and c, sinA/a = sinB/b = sinC/ c.
Law of Sines
For triangle ABC with side lengths a,b, and c:
a^2 = b^2 + c^2
b^2= a^2 + c^2
c^2= a^2 +b^2
Law of Cosines
One of the two sides of the right triangle that form the right triangle.
Leg of a Right Triangle
If a right triangle has legs of lengths a and b and a hypotenuse of length c, then a^2+b^2=c^2
Pythagorean Theorem
A comparison of two quantities by division.
Ratio
A triangle with one right angle.
Right Triangle
Two figures are similar if they have the same shape but not necessarily the same size.
Similar
In a right triangle , the ratio of the length of the leg opposite angle A to the length of the hypotenuse.
Sine
In a right triangle, the ratio of the length of the leg opposite angle A to the length of the leg adjacent to angle A.
Tangent of an Angle
