More laws, more presidential power over the people. In the Cold War, Great Depression and world wars, the people originally turned to the federal government to protect them. Legislation and each new law and program required another executive agency and more presidential advisers. After these events, there must be new legislation in place, therefore, the presidential power increases as they are a part of the Executive Branch. The branch is who enforces those laws on the people.
Has the system of checks and balances eroded with an increasingly powerful president?
