Name and define the four brain areas of focus.
Cerebellum: balance and movement (gross-motor skills), aids in executive function; located at the rear of the brain
Reticular formation: attention; located on the brain stem
Amygdala: processing emotions; located in the inner brain
Hippocampus: memory; located in the inner brain
Define the pituitary gland.
A gland that released hormones that cause growth; located at the base of the brain.
Define growth hormone (GH).
A hormone crucial for the development of nearly all body tissues.
Define thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH).
A hormone that causes the thyroid to release thyroxine which is crucial for brain development and for the full effect of GH on body size.
Define psychosocial dwarfism.
A growth disorder characterized by decreased GH and melatonin, shortness, immature skeletal age, and serious adjustment issues.
